Reviews have shown the NatureMill composter to be the best composting solution available on the market. Often many wonder, however, where the idea came from and how it all started for NatureMill. Review of the history of many great inventions throughout time show that they arrived by accident or through unintended results. The story for NatureMill started much the same way.
Review by the city of San Francisco showed the need for a composting solution for citizens in order to lower the amount of waste going to landfills. As a result in 2002, the city began giving away compost bins for free for residents. In 2009, the composting became mandatory and residents were left to find the best way for them. One resident, Russ Cohn, was sure that there had to be a better solution than what was out there. However, for the time being he resorted to using the compost bin for collection in his home. One week, he left for vacation and forgot to empty the compost bin. He returned to an unpleasant surprise.
Review of the contents of the bin showed that the composting process had begun already. It was warm and microorganisms were beginning to break down the materials. That is when Cohn developed the idea for the composter and created NatureMill. Review of the mistake showed that he needed more oxygen, a powerful air filter, automated mixing and insulation to create the most efficient process. Multiple patents and prototypes later, NatureMill was born.
